Job Purpose:

You will be responsible for leading the inverter development projects, including project & supplier management, programme alignment and overall delivery ownership of the component.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the integration of inverters into vehicles from concept through to production.
  • Manage key stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally. 
  • Collaborate with internal AML stakeholders (driveline, eMotors) and external suppliers to ensure timely delivery of inverters into production.
  • Contribute to the System Design Specification, align with system functional targets, manage requirements, and cascade them to suppliers. Support Test & Development team with DVP planning and execution, ensuring supplier tests are completed on time.
  • Identify and contain potential quality concerns using engineering quality systems (FMEAs, Robustness Studies).
  • Define programme cost targets, work with suppliers to achieve these targets, maintain control of tooling, engineering, and part costs via AML’s Cost Management System (CMS), and predict project spend to ensure budget compliance.
  • Define and manage required commodity plans for each programme, including design and manufacturing lead-times and key programme deliverables timing.
  • Support all virtual verification activities, including packaging, 1D & 3D analyses.
  • Support thermal modelling of inverters and eMotors.
  • Coordinate system and supplier comparison studies, evaluate RFQ responses, and influence management decisions.
  • Complete Change Tracking Documents, Engineering Release Notices, and Releases to allow engineering changes to be approved by AML.
  • Resolve engineering concerns using eCMS in a timely manner.

Qualification & Experience:

The essential areas of previous experience required to undertake this role include:

  • Deep technical knowledge of inverter hardware and software including inverter hardware design, control methodologies and future technology developments.
  • Delivery of inverters for automotive projects.
  • Supplier management in the later stages of development until mass production.
  • Knowledge of all relevant vehicle legislation and certification requirements for automotive inverter systems.

We would prefer if you had experience in: 

  • Experience of delivering inverters from early R&D to series production through an automotive product creation system.
  • Technical knowledge of eMotors, motor control theory and automotive HV power electronics hardware and software.
  • Experience of HV switching component development for vehicle EMC compliance.
  • Experience in high voltage switching components (MOSFETs, IGBTs).
  • User of MATLAB/Simulink.
